Abstract

Currently, three species of the ant genus Calyptomyrmex Emery, 1887 are known from Thailand, including Calyptomyrmex troglodytes Chayakul and Jaitrong sp. nov., which is described herein based on the worker caste. The new species was discovered in the completely dark zone of a cave located in northern Thailand. The new species is easily distinguished from the other species known in Asia by its largest body and narrowly spatulate hairs. This paper also provides the first descriptions of the queen and male castes of Calyptomyrmex rectopilosus Dlussky and Radchenko, 1990. Additionally, an updated key to Asian species of Calyptomyrmex is provided.
